How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Peers:
'Maybe you shouldn’t be an attorney.' A (former) boss said this. Real encouraging guy.
How I responded:
I was pretty discouraged for a good week or two. I spoke to a lot of mentors who encouraged me that no, I hadn’t blown my calling, and yes, I really could be an attorney. Then I went and got a different job, which prepared me for this next job where I am today.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I had to take on a significant amount of debt to finance college and my graduate studies. Slow and steady wins the day, though, and we’ve kept our expenses low.
