Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
A young woman couldn’t succeed in sales.
How I responded:
I overcame the noise with the help of great mentors and sponsors at work and an incredibly supportive husband at home. Surrounding myself with people who believe in me and lift me up has made such a difference. If everyone around you is satisfied with the status quo, you may lower your standards too. Being around negative people who don’t strive for more can hold you back – and you may not even realize it at the time. Who your friends are and who you surround yourself with matters.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I was the first in my family to earn a college degree, so I didn’t grow up thinking college was a natural next step after finishing high school. I went straight into the workforce as a receptionist for a construction company.
