My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
Went to art college after high school. Then, I moved to New York City for two years.
2.
Married my long-time boyfriend (one of the best choices I've ever made). :-)
3.
I moved to Florence, Italy to study for one year and remained for another two years.
4.
Went back to college for my MFA in painting, at Boston University, in 2006.
5.
Moved to Boston in 1987 and went back to college (at MassArt in 1993) for a BFA in graphic design.
6.
Chose to put all of my effort and determination into working as a full-time artist. No regrets!
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
You'll never make a living as an artist.
How I responded:
Often the above can be true, and that's why having a varied career path can be so useful to an artist. Travel, have fun, and do what you love while you're able to - life moves quickly. Although I believe that we should all follow our passions whenever possible, we must also be realistic about the road ahead, and the unknowns that life may surprise us with.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Choosing an artistic career path often means having very little financial stability, especially in my case. I struggled for years and needed food stamps to survive, but going back to college was one of the most important choices I've ever made.
My brother and sister are 10 years older than I am, and they had the chance to go to college, but both of them quit after the first year. I finished college, and for many years was the only member of my family to go, and to graduate.
