My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
Studied dance at School of American Ballet at a young age.
2.
Studied Shakespeare in high school and college. His characters and conflicts inspire my writing.
3.
Lived and worked in Dublin as a teenager. I was exposed to folk music and became very independent!
4.
I befriended John Lee Hooker when I was a college DJ. I learned so much from his unique genius.
5.
Toured with Ani DiFranco. She's proudly independent, and I was inspired to start my own label.
6.
Won the Lilith Fair talent search, and performed at the last Lilith Fair festival.

THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
Your voice isn't good enough to be a singer. You should only write songs.
How I responded:
I was consistently told I should not sing and should only write songs. I knew I didn't have the greatest natural vocal ability, but thankfully that "noise" only encouraged me to work harder, push my own limitations, and ultimately develop my own voice. Most of the negative feedback was ultimately a blessing, because I used it to drive me toward my goals and to focus on my strengths as a songwriter, while continually working on my voice until something really shifted.
