If you love the outdoors, you're well on your way! You'll need to become CPR certified if you want to work at an adventure course. Additionally, show that you're outgoing and can interact positively with people.

Here's the path I took:

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

    I grew up immersed in the outdoors.

  • 2.

    I earned my bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation from Northern Arizona University.

  • 3.

    I knew I wanted my work to involve the outdoors but I wasn’t quite sure what that meant.

  • 4.

    After graduating, I worked for City of Flagstaff Recreation Services, where I managed the city ice rink, ran the adult athletics program, and promoted Flagstaff in the tourism office.

  • 5.

    I joined the Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course when it opened in late 2011 and have been helping to manage the course ever since.

  • 6.

    In addition to my work with Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course, I also compete in endurance events—most recently, I won the Pass Mountain 50K Trail Run!

  • I tore my achilles tendon and couldn't walk for four months. It was the first time I was told I can't do something. I just had to adapt. Take situations as they are and adapt. Instead of walking across the floor, I just had to crawl across the floor.
