Advice for getting started
I find myself often thinking this when I am being polite and cordial to my competitors, when we both know we don't like each other. I don't think there is anything wrong with being competitive and showing that. I had to realize that I am not being paid to like my competitors, I'm being paid to advocate for my clients.
Here's the path I took:
High School
Bachelor's Degree
Insurance
Olivet College

Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Starting out in this career was a challenge. You don't make a lot to start out with so there were times when I was eating sandwiches for lunch and dinner and barely making rent.
My relatives were in the insurance industry and this inspired me to do the same, but I wanted to do it differently. Going to college was that first step.
My sector of insurance is largely white male dominated, so my race was often a deterrent. I had to be better and more determined than everyone around me.
