Life & Career Milestones
My path in life has been direct
1.
Growing up, Marshawn felt like she had a chip on her shoulder; says dealing with racism in the South really impacted her self-esteem.
2.
At the age of 10, a teacher told her, "Only you can define you," and that changed her thinking.
3.
By the time she got to college, she'd found her drive and set a number of goals: wanted to be Miss America, wanted to be an attorney.
4.
In 2001, she was named Miss District of Columbia, then was third-runner-up in the 2002 Miss America pageant.
5.
In 2005, she received her law degree, and she now works as an up-and-coming litigator and consultant.
6.
Even after achieving those two huge milestones, she says she still hasn't accomplished all of the goals she's set for herself.
7.
Says that whenever you're making a choice, you're going to face doubts, so you can't let the fear of making decisions bog you down.
8.
She doesn't know what will come next for her career, but she's not anxious about the future because she's too busy enjoying the present.
Defining Moments
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
